Starion Bank awarded scholarships to Oakes High School seniors Jordyn Kelly and Taylor Roney. Each will receive $500 to help in her pursuit of higher education. Applications were evaluated on a variety of areas including leadership, community involvement, and future career goals and plans.
Jordyn Kelly, the daughter of Michael and Becky Kelly, plans to attend Valley City State University and major in elementary education. During high school, she participated in a variety of activities including playing on the volleyball team, statistician for the wrestling team, and serving in the mentor program and on student council. Outside of school, Kelly has been in Girl Scouts since 2007 and is completing her Gold Award. She’s also been active in her church youth group, served as a volunteer teaching assistant and has worked in childcare for three years. After college, Kelly hopes to teach an early elementary grade in a rural North Dakota town.
Taylor Roney is the daughter of Philip and Heather Roney. She plans to attend North Dakota State University and major in apparel/retail merchandising and design. Following college, she hopes to open a boutique specializing in women’s clothing and accessories, and grow her photography business. Her high school career included being a member of the volleyball team, statistician for wrestling and baseball, student council and yearbook staff. Roney has been in Girl Scouts for 12 years and is completing her Gold Award in June. Her volunteer work has included the Tornado Watch program, coaching soccer and volleyball, and assisting teachers.
